There is an African proverb that says: “If you educate a man, you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a nation.” And, educating a nation is just what an amazing organization called More Than Me, is doing in Liberia!
Founded in 2009 by Katie Meyler, More Than Me, runs the More Than Me Academy, a free top-tier private school “providing an education and holistic wrap-around services to the most vulnerable girls in West Point and Central Monrovia aged 5-17 in grades K-6.”
Take a look at this photo of these girls from the More Than Me Academy, and pay close attention to the expression of the girl in the middle. Her expression says it all: GIRL POWER BABY!!
And just look at how spiffy they look in their uniforms!
In a nation where too many times the girl child ends up being a victim of rape, gender based violence, and/or is forced into prostitution to sustain herself and her family, this picture ignites a beacon of hope that, with an organization like More Than Me, the story of the Liberian girl child will ultimately, have a happier ending.
KUDOS More Than Me!
Make sure to check out their website to find out more about the organization and, if you can, please donate and/or offer your support in whatever ways you can to enable More Than Me to keep on doing the transformative work they’re doing in Liberia.
